Raíces Roots Music Concert Series

Our 2018 arts and cultural work focused on producing a series of concerts featuring roots music from different cultures throughout the world. The goal of this series was to bridge a diversity of cultures through the universal language of music and provide talented cultural artists and performers from NJ with performance opportunities in our community. From Brazilian Capoeira to Andean Indigenous flutes and drums, from Puerto Rican Jíbaro mountain music to American Bluegrass mountain music, Raíces was happy to work with artists and musicians from our community who, like us, are working to preserve cultural roots through the arts.

Special thanks to all performers in the series for sharing their talents and knowledge with our community, and to all who attended the series and brought their family, friends and neighbors along.

Grant funding has been provided by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders through a grant provided by New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State.

Additional funds for some of the concerts in this series have been provided by the Borough of Highland Park’s Park Partners Grant Program 2018 in the category of culture and diversity and by Johnson and Johnson through their Gateway to the Arts grant program.

Funds raised by ticket sales to the concert benefited the Raíces PR Sustainble Disaster Relief Fund. We are grateful to all the artists and community members who helped support this cause!

The Raíces Cultural Center Ensemble

The Raíces Cultural Center Ensemble is evolving and changing, as it always does. Our core ensemble remains the same, but in 2018, we welcomed new percussion student Akosua Chinon into the student ensemble. We are currently working with Akosua and our core ensemble members on music, songs and dance for the Orisha’s, or forces of nature. Watch for presentations and performances in 2019 and contact us if you want to set up or offer a program in your community!

Your support helps us to continue our work in cultural preservation through the arts, history and ecology. Thanks to all who have contributed their time, energy and resources to Raíces Cultural Center in 2018! Want to become a donor for 2019 and help Raíces continue to make an impact in our community?
